PCAP arranges family funday’s to drive away the pandemic blues!

PCAP arranges family funday’s to drive away the pandemic blues!

In April of 2019 an idea to arrange for some activities to take place at The Vale leisure centre for the 13 to 18 year olds was planned. Well the pandemic put paid to that. Wind forward to later that year and the Mental health impact of the Pandemic was being seen and felt at Pewsey Vale School.  Following talks with the head teacher, PCAP supported the school to apply for £5,000 for a mental health triage team to help support those young people in the school. The funding came through the Pewsey Area Board and specifically the Local Youth Network funding for 13 to 18 years in January 2020.

PCAP also helped Pewsey Primary School to secure more computers and tablets for children learning at home before Christmas 2020 thanks to donations by a local recycling company called Green Machine, Pewsey Parish Council and PCAP.

Fast forward to 2021 and those Local Youth Network funds had been secured and PCAP began to arrange some funday’s for local families and young people for the summer holidays.

Sunday July 25th saw the Bouverie Hall Car park taken over by King Ramps mobile Half Pipe and demo crew and The Pewsey Craft Studio offering free sessions making bath bombs in the Main Hall.

Sunday August 22nd saw the mobile Climbing Wall owned and run by Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team take over the Bouverie Car Park and again more crafting with the Craft Studio in the Hall.

Both events were well attended by an estimated 120 young people in total and much fun was had by all.  We believe it lifted a few spirits and offered a chance to do something not usually available in Pewsey.

Pewsey Vale Care Cafe

The first Pewsey Care Cafe (Memory Cafe) took place on Tuesday 16th June at the Scout Hut in Pewsey.    It was great fun and full of introductions as people got to know one another over a cup of tea, cake and biscuits.  We talked about life, news, how to make the perfect cup of tea and what the group would like to do in the coming months – so lots of ideas for us to work on.

The Care Cafe is a monthly cafe for those with dementia and their carers and is being run by the Pewsey Vale Dementia Awareness Group (PVDAG), part of PCAP.  It is for anyone who lives in the Pewsey Community Area and its immediate surrounds.

A real community initiative, the Cafe couldn’t have happened without the efforts of the members of the PVDAG, the support and generous donations as a result of our foray into Crowdfunding and the donation (every month) of refreshments by the Pewsey Spar Shop.

The full list of Care Cafe dates can be found here.

For more information about volunteering or attending the Cafe, contact pcap@hotmail.co.uk.

Gauging interest in a Pewsey Area Community Christmas Lunch

This idea has come through the Pewsey Noticeboard on Facebook and Susan Connolly who runs the Spar Shop in Pewsey has stepped up to the plate to find out whether there is an appetite (no pun intended!) for a Christmas Day Lunch for residents of the Pewsey Community Area and to manage the event if there is sufficient interest.  This is targeted at any age group, for anyone who may find Christmas day a bit lonely or if they are unable to cook – or if they just want a bit of company.

All and any interest must be back with Susan by Friday 14th November (susan@spar-tidworth.co.uk) so that we can gauge whether there is sufficient interest to run the lunch.

There are two files:

This is a register type document that can be printed and put in your local shops/pubs/halls so people can sign up if they are interested.

This is an initiative to look at how Pewsey Vale can attract more tourists and keep them here for longer with the economic benefit that ensues.

An event was held at the Pewsey Heritage Centre on 30th September 2014, which was attended by just over 40 local tourism-related business people.

The mediator for the event was Patrick Wilson (Chair of Pewsey & District Chamber of Commerce; Vice-Chair of PCAP) and the speakers were as follows:
